MD6200 Rotary Drill Caterpillar

Battery Disconnect Switch

Usage:

MD6200 D9A

NOTICE

Never move the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position while the engine is operating. Serious damage to the electrical system could result.

NOTICE

Allow 2 minutes after engine shutdown to apply the battery disconnect switch. Applying the battery disconnect too soon will prevent the DEF system from being purged and could cause DEF to freeze in the lines.

The battery disconnect switch, and the starter disconnect switch, are located on the side of the machine near the batteries.

Turn both disconnect switches to the OFF position and remove the key when you service the electrical system or any other machine components.

Starter Disconnect Switch (A)

The starter disconnect switch controls the electrical power to the starter motor.

ON - To activate the starter electrical system, turn the starter disconnect switch clockwise. The starter disconnect switch must be turned to the ON position before you start the engine.

OFF - To deactivate the starter electrical system, turn the starter disconnect switch counterclockwise to the OFF position.

Perform the following procedure in order to check the battery disconnect switch for proper operation:

  1. With the starter disconnect switch in the ON position, verify that the engine will crank.

  2. Turn the starter disconnect switch to the OFF position.

  3. Verify that the engine will not crank. If the engine cranks with the starter disconnect switch in the OFF position, consult your Cat dealer.

To ensure that no damage to the engine occurs, verify that the engine is fully operational before cranking the engine. Do not crank an engine that is not fully operational.

NOTICE

Do not turn off the battery disconnect switch until the indicator lamp has turned off. If the switch is turned off when the indicator lamp is illuminated the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) system will not purge the DEF. If the DEF does not purge, DEF could freeze and damage the pump and lines.

NOTICE

Never move the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position while the engine is operating. Serious damage to the electrical system could result.

Note: Do not turn off the battery disconnect switch until Wait to disconnect Indicator light (C) has turned off. If the battery disconnect switch is turned off when the light is illuminated, the DEF system will not purge and DEF could freeze and damage the pump and the lines.

The battery disconnect switch controls all machine electrical power.

ON - To activate the machine electrical system, turn the battery disconnect switch clockwise. The battery disconnect switch must be turned to the ON position before you start the engine.

OFF - To deactivate the machine electrical system, turn the battery disconnect switch counterclockwise to the OFF position.

Perform the following procedure in order to check the battery disconnect switch for proper operation:

  1. With the battery disconnect switch in the ON position, verify that electrical components in the operator compartment are functioning. Verify that the hour meter is displaying information.

  2. Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.

  3. Verify that the following items are not functioning: electrical components in the operator compartment and hour meter. If any of the items continue to function with the battery disconnect switch in the OFF position, consult your Cat dealer.

To ensure that no damage to the engine occurs, verify that the engine is fully operational before cranking the engine. Do not crank an engine that is not fully operational.
