(4) Torque for the plugs ... 23 ± 4 N·m (17 ± 3 lb ft)
Stake the crankshaft in order to hold the plugs in place.
Stake - Use a center punch and a hammer to change the shape of the holes, as shown.
(5) Crankshaft gear
- Do not heat the crankshaft gear to more than the following value. ... 315° C (599° F)
(6) End play for the new crankshaft ... 0.122 to 0.579 mm (.0048 to .0228 inch)
(7) Wear sleeve and seal installation
Remove the front and rear seal groups, as follows:
Note: Seals and wear sleeves cannot be used again after the seals and wear sleeves are separated.
- Use the 1U-7600 Slide Hammer Puller to remove the seals.
- Use the 5P-7318 Wear Sleeve Distorter Group to remove the wear sleeves.
Install the front and rear seal groups, as follows:
- Clean the outer surface of the crankshaft with 4C-9500 Quick Cure Primer .
- The crankshaft seals must be installed with the lip of the seals, as shown. Ensure that the correct seal is installed on each end of the crankshaft.
Note: No lubrication is needed to install the wear sleeves and the seals.
- Do not separate the seals from the sleeves. Install the seal groups as a unit on each end of the engine with the correct tools, as shown.
