Cylinder Kits Not Recommended For Use In 3400 Family of Marine Engines And D8N Tractors{1214}

The 7E8929 and 7E7310 Pistons have an improved skirt profile and C-groove surface finish for improved seizure resistance. Since these two pistons are available, Caterpillar now recommends that the 3400 Cylinder Kits no longer be used in the 3400 Family of Marine Engines And 3406 Vehicular Engines in D8N Tractors.
In a number of these engine applications the inlet manifold air temperatures are high. Therefore, Caterpillar is recommending only the new pistons be used for replacements in these applications. See the Reference for correct usage of these pistons.
