Vibratory Frequency - Test and Adjust - Speed

Diesel engine exhaust contains products of combustion which may cause personal injury.

Always start and operate the engine in a well ventilated area, and, if in an enclosed area, vent the exhaust to the outside.

Personal injury can result from rotating and moving parts. Stay clear of all rotating and moving parts.

Never attempt adjustments while the machine is moving or the engine is running unless otherwise specified.

The machine must be parked on a level surface and the engine stopped.

Attach a "Do Not Operate" or similar warning tag to the start switch and controls before servicing, repairing, or making adjustments to the machine.

Personal injury or death can result from sudden machine movement.

Sudden movement of the machine can cause injury to persons on or near the machine.

To prevent injury or death, make sure that the area around the machine is clear of personnel and obstructions before operating the machine.


------ WARNING! ------

Injury to personnel can result if they are not in the operator's view. Allow only essential personnel near the machine, and make sure the personnel are in the operator's view when testing, to prevent injury. Make sure checks are done in an open area.


------ WARNING! ------

To prevent injury or death, never work under a machine while a test is being performed.


Note: The vibratory motor for each drum is equipped with a speed sensor. The following procedure can be used to test any of the sensors.

Note: Park the machine on soft dirt or place tires under the drums. Alternately, the machine can be lifted onto jacks, and the machine drums may be supported by air bags. The weight of the machine is approximately 8720 kg (19224 lb).

  1. Drive the machine to a smooth, horizontal surface.

  2. Move propel lever (1) to the NEUTRAL position.

  3. Move parking brake switch (2) to the ON position.

  4. Use throttle control switch (3) to operate the engine in ECO mode or in low idle.

    Note: Two things indicate when the engine is in ECO mode. First, "ECO" will appear on the display. Second, the second LED next to throttle control switch (3) will be illuminated. Two things indicate when the engine is at low idle. First,"Low Idle" will appear on the display. Second, the first LED next to the throttle control switch will be illuminated.

  5. Move engine start switch (4) to the OFF position.

  6. Connect Tool (F) and Tool (G) to Tool (E). Connect Tool (G) to diagnostic connector (5). Connect Tool (F) to USB port on Tool (D).

    Note: Both drums have vibratory speed sensors on each vibratory motor.

  7. Locate vibratory speed sensor connector (6) for the drum being tested. Do not disconnect the connector.

  8. Insert black spoon from Tool (B) into pin "2" of the connector. Insert red spoon from Tool (B) into pin "3" of the connector.

  9. Connect Tool (B) to Tool (A). Set Tool (A) to measure frequency.

  10. Move engine start switch (4) to the START position. Release the switch when the engine starts.

  11. Use throttle control switch (3) to operate the engine in ECO mode.

    Note: Two things indicate when the engine is in ECO mode. First, "ECO" will appear on the display. Second, the second LED next to throttle control switch (3) will be illuminated.

  12. Move parking brake switch (2) to the OFF position.

  13. Use auto vibratory decrease switch (7) to set the vibratory system in the manual mode.

    Note: Two things indicate when the vibratory system is in the manual mode. First, "Vibe Turn On Speed % Manual" will appear on the display. Second, none of the LEDs next to auto vibratory decrease switch (7) will be illuminated.

  14. Use drum select switches (8) and (9) to select both drums.

    Note: Two things indicate when the machine is in both drums mode. First, "Vibe Drum Select Dual" will appear on the display. Second, the third LED next to "rear drum" select switch (9) and the first LED next to "front drum" select switch (8) will be illuminated.

  15. Launch the Plus+1TM program on the computer to enable the vibe test mode.

    Note: First-time users need to perform the tasks in the Communication and Connections Wizard. This wizard allows the Windows® operating system to recognize the USB device. Follow the on-screen instructions.

  16. Click "Status" icon (10).

  17. Check "Active Codes" (11). Clear any open "Active Codes".

  18. Click "Hydraulics" (12).

  19. Click "Vibe Test Mode" (13).

  20. Click "Enable" icon (14) to enable the "Normal Vibe Test Mode".

  21. When "Normal Vibe Test Mode" is in "Enabled" mode, the Plus+1TM program is launched.

  22. Press vibratory control switch (15) on the propel control lever. Hold vibratory control switch (15) down for 2 seconds to activate the vibratory system.

  23. Read frequency shown on Tool (A).

  24. Press vibratory control switch (15) to shut off the vibratory system.

  25. Move parking brake switch (2) to the ON position.

  26. Move engine start switch (4) to the OFF position.

  27. Multiply frequency measured in Step 23 by 1.25. Refer to Table 2 for the correct VPM for your machine. Compare this value to frequency measured by Tool (A). The values should match within ± 50 vpm.

  28. If the vibratory speed sensor is not functioning properly or shows no signal, clean, repair, or replace the vibratory speed sensor and retest. Go to Step 8. If the vibratory speed sensor is functioning properly, remove the tooling and lower the machine to the ground.

    Note: The speed sensors can alternately be tested with the service tool software.
