584 and 584HD Forwarders Hydraulic System Caterpillar

Piston Pump (Implement) Low Pressure Standby - Test and Adjust

Usage:

584HD 109
The standby pressure may need to be adjusted when the piston pump (implement) is not upstroking or destroking properly. The standby pressure is controlled by a load sensing valve in the piston pump (implement). The load sensing valve will be tested and adjusted in this procedure.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from escaping fluid under pressure.

Escaping fluid under pressure, even a very small pin-hole size leak, can penetrate body tissue and cause serious injury and possible death. If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated immediately by a doctor familiar with this type of injury.

Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak.

----------------------

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Ensure that the hydraulic oil in the system is at normal operating temperature. Park the machine on a level surface.

  1. Install a 198-4240 Digital Pressure Indicator on pressure tap (1). Pressure tap (1) is located at the "GP2" port of the manifold for the implement pump.

Note: Hydraulic pressure can be viewed with IQAN on the display for hydraulic pressure.

  1. Start the engine. The pressure should be 1503 kPa (218 psi). Stop the engine. If the standby pressure is not adjusted to the correct pressure setting, perform Steps 8 through 11.

  1. Start the engine.
