Engine Oil Filter and Base - Remove and Install

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


Note: Put identification marks on all hoses, on all hose assemblies, on all wires, and on all tube assemblies for installation purposes. Plug all hose assemblies and all tube assemblies. This helps to prevent fluid loss, and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.

  1. Loosen bolts (1). Disconnect tube assemblies (2) .

  1. Use Tooling (A) in order to remove oil filter assembly (5) .

  1. Remove bolts (4) .

  1. Remove oil filter base (3) .

    Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a released spring force.

    Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.

    Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force.

  1. Remove bolts (6) and the washers in order to remove cover (7) and the gasket from oil filter base (3). Remove spring (8) and plunger (9) from oil filter base (3) .

  1. Install plunger (9) and spring (8) to oil filter base (3). Position cover (7) and the gasket and install bolts (6) and the washers.

  1. Position oil filter base (3) and install bolts (4) .

  1. Use Tooling (A) in order to install oil filter assembly (5) .

  1. Connect tube assemblies (2). Tighten bolts (1) .
