Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Lower the boom and retract the counterweight. Stop the engine.

- On the center platform of the machine, remove hydraulic oil filler cap (2) in order to relieve the tank pressure. Remove the filler strainer.

- Remove four bolts (1) from the cover in order to remove the hydraulic oil filter.
- Remove hydraulic oil filter element (3) and properly discard the filter.
- Clean the strainer, the filter housing, and the oil filler cap in a clean, nonflammable solvent.
- Inspect the seal for the filter cover. If the cover seal is damaged, install a new seal.
- Install new hydraulic oil filter element (3) .
- Install the strainer, the cover, and four bolts (1) for the filter housing.
- Inspect the seal on the filler cap. Replace the seal if the seal is worn or damaged. Install the retainer ring and the cap.
- Maintain the oil level to the "FULL" mark in sight gauge (5) for the hydraulic oil tank. Add oil, if necessary.
Dual Filter
Replace the dual filter for the hydraulic system.
Note: The dual filter also filters the oil to the winch hydraulic system.

Replace both of the filters with the filter in the hydraulic tank.
- Remove the oil filters and discard the oil filter elements properly. Make sure that all of the old filter seals are removed from the filter base.
- Apply a thin film of clean hydraulic oil to the sealing surface of the new filter element.
- Install the new oil filter elements by hand.
Instructions for the installation of the filters are printed on the side of each Caterpillar spin-on filter. For non-Caterpillar filters, refer to the installation instructions that are provided by the supplier of the filter.
