Camshaft

Usage:

(1) Diameter of the bearing surface (journal) of camshaft ... 63.500 ± 0.013 mm (2.5000 ± .0005 in.)

Clearance between bearings and bearing surfaces (journals) ... 0.089 ± 0.051 mm (.0035 ± .0020 in.)

Maximum permissible clearance between bearings and bearing surfaces (journals) ... 0.25 mm (.010 in.)

(2) End play for the camshaft ... 0.18 ± 0.08 mm (.007 ± .003 in.)

Maximum permissible end play ... 0.64 mm (.025 in.)

(3) Tight fit between the gear and camshaft ... 0.050 to 0.102 mm (.0020 to .0040 in.)

Maximum permissible temperature of the gear for installation on the camshaft (do not use a torch) ... 316°C (601°F)

NOTE: When gear is installed, timing mark must be to the outside (away from camshaft).

(4) Tighten stud to a torque of ... 15 ± 3 N·m (11 ± 2 lb. ft.)

(5) Height of camshaft lobes.

To find lobe lift, use the procedure that follows:

A. Measure camshaft lobe height (5).

B. Measure base circle (7).

C. Subtract base circle (Step B) from lobe height (Step A). The difference is actual lobe lift (6).

D. Specified camshaft lobe lift (6) is:

a. Exhaust lobe ... 7.800 mm (.3071 in.)
b. Intake lobe ... 7.816 mm (.3077 in.)

Maximum permissible difference between actual lobe lift (Step C) and specified lobe lift (Step D) is 0.25 mm (.010 in.)

NOTE: For installation of camshaft, the timing mark on the camshaft gear tooth space must be in alignment with the timing mark on the tooth of the crankshaft gear.

(8) Torque for bolts ... 55 ± 7 N·m (41 ± 5 lb. ft.)
