Drive Shaft (Front) and Drive Shaft Support Bearing - Remove

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".

  2. Remove the center drive shaft. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Drive Shaft (Center) - Remove and Install".


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Disconnect hose assembly (1).

  2. Remove bolt (2) and retainer (3) from the splined end of the front drive shaft.

  3. Remove O-ring seal (5) and yoke (4).

    ------ WARNING! ------

    Hot oil and components can cause personal injury.

    Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.


  4. Disconnect hose assemblies (6), (7) and (8).

  5. Remove eight bolts (9).

  6. Remove spider (10).

  7. Use two people or a suitable jack to remove front drive shaft (11). The weight of front drive shaft (11) is 44 kg (97 lb).

  8. Remove six bolts (12) and the nuts that hold support bearing (13) to the front main frame.

  9. Remove support bearing (13).
