Schematic Coolant System

This system will warm the engine and the hydraulic system before engine start-up. Warming a cold engine before start-up extends the service life of the engine.

Setting the Control Panel

The operator presets the time for the activation of the preheat system. The system will operate automatically at the selected start time until the start time is changed by the operator.

Note: The system will operate if the engine start switch is in the ON position or in the OFF position. If the battery disconnect switch is turned off, the preheat system will not operate and the settings for the preheat system will be erased. The settings must be programmed again.

When the power is reconnected to the unit all signal will start to flash. The clock must be reset before you can turn on the heater.

Set the day of the week by pressing arrow keys (9) and (10). The day of the week will flash until the value is stored.

The time and the day will be shown on display (1) .

Note: The time and the day can be changed by holding down the select key (6) until the time flashes. Then follow the information in "Setting the Time of Day and the Day of the Week".

Manually Starting the Preheat System with the Engine Start Switch in the OFF Position

Press on/off key (8) in order to start the preheat system at any time. The remaining preheat time and the heater ON indicator (5) are shown on display (1) .

The heating cycle can be set to a maximum of 120 minutes. The heating cycle can be changed for a single heating cycle or permanently changed.

Press on/off key (8) again in order to shut off the preheat system. The heater ON indicator (5) will not be shown in display (1). The fan will continue to operate in order to cool down the heater.

Changing the Heating Cycle for a Single Heating Cycle

When the unit is operating in the heat mode press arrow key (9) in order to decrease the heating cycle or press arrow key (10) in order to increase the heating cycle.

Changing the Heating Cycle Permanently

When the unit is not operating in the heat mode press and hold arrow key (9) for approximately 3 seconds until the display appears and flashes. Release arrow key (9). Now set the heating cycle from 10 to 120 minutes by using arrow key (9) and (10) .

The new heating cycle has been stored when the display disappears.

Manually Starting the Preheat System with the Engine Start Switch in the ON Position

Press on/off key (8) in order to start the preheat system. The preheat system will remain on until the engine start switch is turned to the OFF position.

After the engine start switch is turned to the OFF position, the preheat system will remain active for 15 minutes. The time period can be decreased by pressing arrow key (9). The minimum time period is one minute. The time period can be increased by pressing arrow key (10). The maximum time period is 120 minutes.

Press on/off key (8) again in order to shut off the preheat system. The fan automatically continues to operate in order to cool down the heater.

Programming the Preselected Start Times and Days

Three different start times within a 24 hour period can be programmed into the preheat system. The preheat system can also be programmed to start once in seven days.

Note: Only one start time can be activated at any given time.

Select Memory and Activate

Press select key (7) once for memory information 1. Press the key twice for memory information 2. Press the key three times for memory information 3.

Continue to press select key (7) until no memory is displayed. When no memory is displayed the memory is not activated.

Start Heating within 24 Hours

Start the Heating within 24 Hours.

Set the preselected time - Press select key (7) until the required memory information (2) flashes on display (1). Press arrow key (9) or (10). The preset time flashes on display (1). Use arrow key (9) or (10) to set the preselected time for heating.

Note: Setting the time is only possible when the preselected time on display (1) is flashing.

Press select key (7) in order to renew a selection.

Start Heating after 24 Hours

Set a preselected time - Press select key (7) until the required memory information (2) flashes on display (1). Press arrow key (9) or (10). The preset time flashes on display (1). Use arrow key (9) or (10) to set the preselected time for heating. Set a preselected day.

Set a preselected day - The preselected day starts to flash approximately 5 seconds after the preselected time is set. Use arrow key (9) or (10) in order to set the preselected day for heating.

The preselected time and the day are stored when the time on the display disappears.

The memory information indicates the activated memory. A flashing heating (symbol) in display (1) indicates an activated memory.

Checking the Activated Memory

Press select key (7) once in order to display the preselected time and the day. The data will be display for 5 seconds.

Preheater Operation

  1. When the preheater is either manually turned ON or automatically turned ON the following steps occur.

    1. The control unit does a systems check: flame sensor, temperature sensor, thermal sensor (safety) and various other control unit checks

    1. The circulation pump starts circulating coolant.

    1. The combustion air fan starts.

    1. The glow plug begins to preheat for 20 to 50 seconds.

    1. After the glow plug heats up the fuel pump starts delivering fuel and the combustion air fan increases speed gradually.

    1. Once the ignition takes place, the flame sensor sends a signal to the control unit. The control unit shuts off the glow plug.

Note: If the preheater fails to start the first time, the preheater will automatically attempt a second start. If the preheater fails to start the preheater will shut down completely.

Note: The initial start-up of the preheater may require several attempts to prime the fuel system.

  1. Once the ignition is successful the following operations occur.

    1. The preheater operates in FULL HEAT mode and the temperature is monitored at the heat exchanger.

    1. Once the coolant reaches 72 °C (162 °F) the preheater will start to cycle between levels.

      • High

      • Medium

      • Low

    1. If the coolant temperature continues to rise, the temperature sensor will send a signal to the control unit that will automatically shut off the preheater. This occurs when the temperature reaches 85 °C (185 °F).

    1. The circulation pump will continue to circulate coolant in order to allow the preheater to monitor engine temperature.

    1. The preheater will automatically restart once the coolant temperature reaches 68 °C (154 °F).

    1. The preheater continues to operate, until the preheater is turned off by one of the following methods.

      • manually-activated

      • automatically activated

      • malfunction

Note: If the flame of the preheater goes out in the operation mode, the preheater will automatically attempt one restart. If the preheater restarts, the preheater will continue to operate. If the preheater does not start the preheater will shut off.

Note: The preheater continually senses the input voltage from the batteries. If the input voltage drops to 20 volts or rises about 30 volts the preheater will automatically shut down during normal operation.

  1. When the preheater is either manually switched OFF or automatically switched OFF, the preheater starts a controlled cool down cycle.

    1. The fuel pump stops delivering fuel. The flame is extinguished.

    1. The combustion air fan and the circulation pump continue to operate for 130 seconds in order to cool down.

    1. The preheater shuts off.
