SUBJECT: Pre-delivery Inspection Service Letter
PROBLEM:
Certain C11 and C13 On-highway engines have experienced some or all of the following issues.
- In some instances, the air compressor pressure switch for the C13 engine malfunctions. The malfunctioning switch is the input switch that turns on the engine fan while the air compressor is running.
- Affected Product ? KCB00891-01676
- Certain C13 chassis configurations experience violent surge under high speed/high load conditions.
- Affected Product ? KCB00508-02033
- In some cases, C11 and C13 engines might experience white smoke and instability under low speed/light load conditions.
- Affected Product ? KCB00508-04642, KCA00161-00910
- On some C11 and C13 engines, the nuts that hold the high-pressure turbocharger-mounting flange to the exhaust manifold might come loose. This is caused by the nuts having a torque value that is too low.
- Affected Product ? KCB00508-04832, KCA00161-00961
SOLUTION:
In order to correct, or prevent the issues that are listed above, dealers should refer to Service Letter PS41544. Performing the steps found in PS41544 will resolve all of the issues that are listed above. Specifically, flashing the engine with the latest software and checking the turbocharger mounting flange nuts will resolve the issues that are listed above.
