SUBJECT: 490 Generator Frame Bearing Failure
PROBLEM:
There may be premature failure of the main generator bearing on the 490 frame generators. The bearing collapses due to the lack of lubricant. OMM incorrectly states that no lubricant is required for this generator.
SOLUTION:
The correction to the OMM has now been approved. The paragraph with the incorrect information stating that no lubrication is required on the 3406E generator sets has been removed.
The 3456 generator set prefix has been included in this issue to remove the possibility of further confusion. The 3456 uses the same generator as the 3406E (490 frame SR4B).
This issue is a generator specific problem and is not engine model related.
