SUBJECT: Certain 225-6118 Harness Cables Used with the Plug and Run Wiring System (Caterpillar Data Link) May Need to be Rewired

PROBLEM:

Caterpillar Data Link leads are located in the 8T-8736 Receptacle on the 225-6118 Harness Assembly. If the change level of the 225-6118 Harness Assembly is prior to 02 (225-6118-02), the location of the Data Link leads in the 8T-8736 Receptacle may be incorrect.

SOLUTION:

Illustration 1. Location of the part number label.

Refer to the part number label. This label will be located approximately 150 mm (6 inches) from the connector (see Illustration 1). If the label indicates 225-6118-02 or higher, no action is required. If the label does not indicate a change number (225-6118), perform the following steps.

Illustration 2. 225-6118 Receptacle wiring.

  1. Remove the 18 AWG green wire (CAT Data Link ? Negative) from position "D" in receptacle 8T-8736.
  2. Remove the 18 AWG orange wire (CAT Data Link ? Positive) from position "E" in receptacle 8T-8736.
  3. Install the green wire (CAT Data Link ? Negative) in position "E" in receptacle 8T-8736.
  4. Install the orange wire (CAT Data Link ? Positive) in position "D" in receptacle 8T-8736.

When the receptacle is wired correctly, it will conform to the following table.
