SUBJECT: AIR FILTER CLOGGED (EVENT CODE E272) EVENT ERRONEOUSLY LOGGED ON M300C-SERIES WHEELED EXCAVATORS
PROBLEM:
The 207-1709 Engine Air Intake Pressure Switch, used on the models listed above, can be mounted incorrectly. Incorrect mounting can allow water to enter into the electrical connector cavity of the switch or cause compression of the switch membrane. Water entry into this electrical connector cavity can short the connector, causing event code E272 to be logged on the engine controller and will result in the machine operating in economy mode. Compression of the membrane will falsify the switch point, also causing the machine to operate in economy mode.
SOLUTION:
Verify that there are 2 jam nuts and a seal on the fitting of the 239-0018 Hose Assembly, below the 207-1709 Air Restriction Switch. If there is only one nut, then you must remove the 207-1709 switch and install one 9X-6606 Nut and one 092-2570 Seal onto the fitting. Run the nut down so that 5.8+/-1.5mm of the fitting protrudes through the seal (see Illustration 1). Reinstall the 207-1709 Air Restriction Switch and run it down to the 092-2570 Seal. Rotate the 207-1709 Pressure Switch back such that the open end of the switch?s electrical connector is pointing downward
(see Illustration 2), allowing water to drain from the electrical connector cavity. Tighten the 9X-6606 Nut to 2.5 N?m. Reinstall one 096-0061 Strap-Cable as shown in Illustration 2. Clear the E272 Event Codes from the engine controller.
