An Improperly Vented Aftercooler May Force Coolant Out Of The Radiator Overflow Tube

Usage:

ENGINESALL 3500 DIESEL COMMERCIAL ENGINES

Problem:

Jacket water coolant is being forced out of the radiator or heat exchanger on some engines that are equipped with dedicated separate circuit aftercooler systems.

Solution:

Separate circuit aftercooler systems with a dedicated radiator or heat exchanger for the aftercooler must have the vent line removed that goes between the aftercooler and jacket water regulator housing. See Illustration 1. A plug must be installed in the jacket water regulator housing where the vent line was removed. A new vent line must be installed between the aftercooler and the radiator or heat exchanger. See Illustration 2. A "Notice" tag is attached to the aftercooler vent line at the factory. See Illustration 3.
