Usage:
THIS TIB REPLACES THE JULY 19, 2000 ENGINES TIB, COMPONENT CODE 1059. DESTROY THE JULY 19, 2000 TIB. IT WILL NOT APPEAR IN THE SEMI-ANNUAL INDEX.
Problem:
Loose exhaust manifold bolts have been found on some of the above 3126 Marine Engines in dealer inventory. The exhaust manifold bolt located on each side of the turbocharger-mounting flange may not be tightened to the correct torque on some of these engines. See Bolts (2) and (3) in the illustration.
Solution:
Dealers should check exhaust manifold bolts (2) and (3) on all of the above engines. All of the above engines in Dealer inventory and all of the above engines that have been installed or are in stock at boat OEMs should be inspected. If either exhaust manifold bolt is loose, proceed with the following "Exhaust Manifold Bolt Inspection Procedure".
EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLT INSPECTION PROCEDURE
Use Disassembly and Assembly Module SENR3611 or SENR9518 as a guide for removing and installing components in this procedure. The following components are required for this procedure:
- Two 2M-9780 Seals (Water Lines Group)
- One 7C-7612 Gasket (Exhaust Elbow Group)
- One 1S-7057 Gasket (Turbocharger Oil Lines Group)
- One 7W-2398 Gasket (Turbocharger Oil Lines Group)
- One 9M-4849 Seal (Turbocharger Oil Lines Group)
- One 3J-1907 Seal (Turbocharger Oil Lines Group)
- One 6V-8397 Seal (Turbocharger Oil Lines Group)
- One 7C-0358 Gasket (Oil Filler Group-RH Service)
- One 4F-7391 Seal (Oil Filler Group-RH & LH Service)
- One 4P-7704 Gasket (Turbocharger Group)
- Four 3E-8017 Locknuts (Turbocharger Group)
- One 7C-7612 Gasket (Exhaust Elbow Group)
- 1. Remove the exhaust pipe on the rear of the turbocharger (for installed engines).
- 2. Remove the turbocharger oil drain tube and oil supply tube.
- 3. Remove the turbocharger coolant drain line and coolant supply line.
- 4. Remove the turbocharger.
- 5. Use a torque wrench to check the tightness of all of the exhaust manifold bolts. Check the bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration. The bolts should be tightened to a torque of 55± 5 N·m (41± 4 lb ft).
NOTE: The torque specification of the Exhaust Manifold Bolts is incorrect in the Reference Disassembly and Assembly Module. The correct final torque exhaust bolts is 55± 5 N·m (41± 4 lb ft).
- 6. Reinstall the turbocharger. Use a new 4P-7704 Gasket between the turbocharger and exhaust manifold.
- 7. Reinstall the turbocharger oil drain tube and oil supply tube. Use new gaskets and O-ring seals.
- 8. Reinstall the turbocharger coolant drain line and coolant supply line. Use new O-ring seals.
- 9. Reinstall the exhaust pipe on the rear of the turbocharger. Use a new gasket.
- 10. Touch up the paint where needed.
Please report the serial numbers of all of the engines that have been inspected and reworked. Please report the serial numbers of all of the engines that have been inspected and did NOT require reworking. Please telephone the reports to Jerry Anderson at telephone number (309) 578-8562.
