Usage:
3196 (2XR1-3206),
3406E (9WR1-1553) MARINE ENGINES
Problem:
3176C/3196/3406E Marine Engines, in the serial number ranges identified above, should not be FLASHed with the May 2000 Marine Engine FLASH files. The specific May 2000 FLASH file part numbers appear in the table below. FLASHing with May 2000 files can reset some ECM Engine Configuration Parameters (Top Engine Limit, Injector Trim Codes, Diagnostic Clock, Transmission Pressure High Set Point, and Max Trolling Speed). The parameters would subsequently be displayed on the CAT ET service tool as "Not Programmed". Marine engines 6BW493-Up, 2XR3207-Up, and 9WR1554-Up have been built with the May 2000 FLASH files. FLASHing these engines with an earlier version of software will also result in loss of some configuration parameters.
Solution:
The "Copy Configuration" feature within CAT ET could be used if the ECM must be FLASHed. "Copy Configuration" is used to copy the Configuration Parameters from the ECM into a PC file. After FLASHing the ECM, "Copy Configuration" feature would be used to program those same parameters back into the ECM.
New Marine Engine FLASH files will be released in the near future, which address the Engine Configuration Parameter issue. Availability of the new FLASH files will be announced at that time.
