Problem:

After installing Electronics Technician V3.0 on the service tool, VIMS-PC V2.4 will not open. Caterpillar Common Services will not accept the logon ID and password.

Solution:

The following procedure may be used in order to get VIMS-PC V2.4 to open.

Procedure

1. Locate the WINDOWS/SYSTEM directory on the service tool's hard drive.
2. Rename the following files with an erroneous extension. For example change ".DLL" to ".oip" and ".EXE" to ".EXP". When the file names are identical except for the extension, make the extensions different. See the example in the table below.

3. Run VIMS-PC 2.4.

NOTE: Electronic Technician V3.0 will not function until the Windows System file extentions have been changed back to their original form.

This incompatability does NOT exsist between VIMSpc99 and Electronic Technician V3.0. Upgrading from VIMS PC V2.4 to VIMSpc99 will illiminate the need to change the file extensions and allow both programs to work without interference.

NOTE: THERE WILL BE NO FURTHER UPDATES TO VIMS-PC 2.4.
