Rubbing And Wear Of Alternator Breaker Wires Caterpillar

Rubbing And Wear Of Alternator Breaker Wires

Usage:

MINI HYDRAULIC EXCAVATOR302.5 (4AZ312-719) MINI HYDRAULIC EXCAVATOR

Problem:

Wear of wires (1) for the 9S-0174 Alternator Breaker (3) has been reported on some machines. The wear was due to the wires rubbing against the adjacent 159-0175 Bracket (2). Wires (1) are designated 101 and 109. Both wires are Red in color to indicate that positive battery voltage is present when the key is OFF. See Illustration 1.

Solution:

Ensure that wires (1) are routed at an angle in order to provide sufficient clearance between the wires and bracket (2). Also, ensure that there is clearance between the wires at the breaker terminals with wire boots (4) in place. See Illustration 2.

NOTE: The alternator breaker wires are subject to movement and motion during normal engine operations. It is essential that as much clearance as possible is maintained between the wires and the adjacent bracket.
