Problem:

Certain excavators are entering other marketing areas outside the market that they are intended. The "Gray Market" or "Gray Iron" machines are manufactured with configurations that are dependent on the laws and customer requirements that are related to the market for which they are originally delivered. Although it was not intended for these models to be shipped to other markets, certain machines have migrated into the other geographic markets. As a result, problems are created when parts service and repair services are needed. The end user is not always aware of these problems.

Solution:

The service and product support for the "Gray Market" machines is specifically available for the marketing areas where they are intended to be shipped. It is recognized that there is a need to provide some technical information through parts manuals and service manual literature written to support these machines. The charts shown in this document provides a cross-reference for Parts Manuals, Operator and Maintenance Manuals, and Service Manuals for the machine PIN prefixes that are listed.

Tips for Working with "Gray Market" Literature

Caterpillar recommends using the Japanese Domestic Parts Manual along with the equivalent export version Parts Manual (English or market applicable language) to identify the correct part numbers. Some part numbers are specific to the Gray Market version due to their market requirements. Service information for the Gray Market version can be obtained from the Service Manuals for the equivalent export version (English or market applicable language). Most system specifications and adjustments are common, but there may be some variances.

Examples of Parts Manuals for Comparison Example (A) is for the travel motor lines group.

Example (A) is for the travel motor lines gorup. Illustration 1 represents the (6GK) Parts Manual and Illustration 2 represents the (7DK) Parts Manual. The lines groups are the same and all component part numbers are common. In this example the 6GK (English) version can be utilized.

Example (B) represents the heater groups. Illustration 3 represents the (6GK) Parts Manual and Illustration 4 represents the (7DK) Parts Manual. The heater groups and the air conditioner groups are different, but the duct groups are the same. In this example, the 7DK (Japanese) version should be used.
