9X-4606 Lip Seal May Leak At Torque Converter Output Shaft And Transfer Gear Input

Usage:

Problem:

The 9X-4606 Lip Seal may leak at low hours. The lip seal tension is very low and does not always seal adequately. The surface texture on the mating yoke can contribute to leaks if a "lead" is present.

Solution:

The former 9X-4606 Lip Seal is replaced by the new 173-7715 Lip Seal. Use seal installation tools to correctly locate seal during installation. Check surface condition of the mating yoke. Surface finish should be 0.25 to 0.50 mu Ra with 0 ± 0.05 deg of lead on yoke seal surface.

NOTE: Seal path wear sleeves SHOULD NOT be used with these seals.

The "dirt lip" of the 173-7715 Lip Seal is very stiff. When installing the yoke into the seal, use care to ensure that the dirt lip is not turned under. Use adequate lubricant on the yoke and seal at the time of assembly. Wipe away excess lubricant after assembly.
