SUBJECT: Surface Cracks Found In 138-7574 Link Bracket
PROBLEM:
Caterpillar has been informed that three 138-7574 Link have been found to have surface cracks. The cracks were found in the link portion of the tool prior to the tool being used.
This link bracket is a three piece tool consisting of a bracket and two chain links. This tool is used to lift components during maintenance and repairs of equipment.
(A) 163-6455 Link Bracket
(B) 138-7576 Link Bracket
(C) 138-7574 Link Bracket
(D) 138-7575 Link Bracket
(E) 138-7573 Link Bracket
The link with the largest cracks was tested for lifting capability and it passed the load test which exceeded the rating of the tool. Only the 138-7574 Link Bracket have reports of cracking, however there are other link brackets with similar functions. The other part numbers are 138-7573, 138-7575, 138-7576 and 163-6455.
Caterpillar has inspected several link brackets in stock and has not found any cracks.
SOLUTION:
Please inspect all 138-7573, 138-7574, 138-7575, 138-7576 and 163-6455 link brackets in your inventory or in your operation (using Magna flux or dye penetrant detection methods ) and report any incidents of cracked links to the CSTG Hotline (309-675-6277)
Replace the cracked Link Bracket, file a warranty claim for any cracked link brackets and return all cracked link brackets to CSTG.
