Usage:
ALL 3306 AND 3306B INDUSTRIAL, MARINE AND GENERATOR SET ENGINES
Problem:
There have been continuing reports of oil leaks past the 129-0357 Oil Pan Plate Gasket between the 3306 engine cylinder block and the 2P-1738 Plate Assembly.
Solution:
Before installing a new 129-0357 Oil Pan Plate Gasket, be sure the contact surfaces are clean and dry. Also, apply 8T-9022 RTV Silicone (Blue) General Purpose Sealant sparingly at the "tee" joints at the front and rear housings. Additional improvement in bolt torque retention may be gained through the installation of steel back-up strips under the bolts that do not go through the oil pan.
To install the back-up strips, one 9Y-0629 Plate, two 9Y-0630 Plates, eighteen 3B-1915 Bolts, and eighteen 5M-2894 Washers are required. Install the new components as shown in the illustration. Tighten the all of the bolts (oil pan bolts and oil pan plate bolts) to a torque of 60 ± 10 N·m (44 ± 7 lb ft). After the engine has been run and reached normal operating temperature and then allowed to cool, the bolt torque should be checked. The bolts must not turn with a MINIMUM tightening torque of 26 N·m (19 lb ft). If a bolt turns with less than the minimum tightening torque, retighten that bolt to a torque of 60 ± 10 N·m (44 ± 7 lb ft).
