GENERALALL CATERPILLAR MACHINES EQUIPPED WITH 134-3997 AND 3E-1906 REFRIGERANT COMPRESSORS

Problem:
134-3997 Refrigerant Compressors and 3E-1906 Refrigerant Compressors with "11671" supplier serial numbers may fail at low hours of service. The mode of failure is a suction reed failure of the compressor indicated by discoloration of the compressor. The compressor failure is often part of a catastrophic failure of the air conditioning system.
Solution:
The problem is currently under investigation and a solution is projected to be available during the first quarter of 1998. In the interim, report any of the above instances of refrigerant compressor failure to:
