Usage:
793B (1HL) TRUCKS
Problem:
There may be interference between the new 138-2292 Turbocharger Group (high pressure) or the Remanufactured 0R-7186 Turbocharger Group (high pressure) and the turbocharger oil lines and turbocharger water lines.
The latest high pressure turbocharger groups (138-2292 Turbocharger Group or the Remanufactured 0R-7186 Turbocharger Group) on these trucks have a bolt-on cast iron compressor housing. All previous high pressure turbochargers had a clamp-on aluminum compressor housing.
Originally eight 125-5375 Bolts were used to fasten the cast iron compressor housing to the bearing housing. These bolts interfere with the turbocharger oil and water lines adapters. This interference makes it impossible to the use the new turbocharger groups without modifications.
Solution:
Examine the new 138-2292 Turbocharger Group or the Remanufactured 0R-7186 Turbocharger Group. If 125-5375 Bolts are used to fasten the cast iron compressor housing to the bearing housing (see Illustration 1), replace the bolts with 147-3737 Bolts. The 147-3737 Bolts have ground heads (see Illustration 2). If the bolts already have ground heads, they are already 147-3737 Bolts. Some new 138-2292 Turbocharger Groups or the Remanufactured 0R-7186 Turbocharger Groups will have 125-5375 Bolts and some will have 147-3737 Bolts.
Modify the turbocharger water and oil line adapters as shown in Illustrations 3, 4, 5 and 6, or replace the adapter as shown in the chart.
Install the new high pressure turbocharger groups on the engine. Then install the turbocharger oil and water lines with the new or modified adapters. The clearance obtained by using the 147-3737 Bolts and the new or modified adapters will allow the proper installation of turbocharger oil and water lines.
Start the engine and check for leaks.
