Usage:
Problem:
Fourteen 8C-6163 Charging Alternator Groups were built by Delco-Remy with the negative terminal grounded to the case. Ten of these alternators have been located and replaced. Four have been shipped with the negative (B-) terminal grounded to the case. The illustrations show the difference between the alternators with and without the grounded negative terminal. Certain applications, such as Marine, cannot operate with a negative ground.
Solution:
The four 8C-6163 Charging Alternator Groups with the negative terminal grounded to the case may be installed on the engines in the list that follows. If you have one of these engines, and the application requires that the negative terminal of the alternator not be grounded to the alternator case, check the charging alternator. See the illustrations. If the 8C-6163 Charging Alternator Group has the negative terminal grounded to the case, replace it with a new 8C-6163 Charging Alternator Group.
