PROBLEM
The bolts holding the swing drives on the upper frame need to be replaced on certain 374D Excavators. The bolts may be loosened and may cause damage to the swing drive, swing bearing, and upper frame. |

ACTION REQUIRED
Remove the 8T-5878 Bolt and 267-6787 Spacer and replace with new 447-1725 Bolts and new 267-6787 Spacers. Refer to the attached Rework Procedure. If thread/dowel hole is damaged, please work with your dealer technical communicator for further rework assistance. |

The existing 8T-5878 Bolt may be loosened and may cause damage to the swing drive, swing bearing, and upper frame. You will not be charged for the service performed. Contact your local Cat dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service. If you are no longer the owner of this product(s), please contact your local Cat dealer so that our records can be updated. Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated 12Mar2014 when scheduling this service. 1. Remove the bottom guard below the main valve. Move the drain hoses from swing bay area in order to avoid interference with the tooling. 2. Remove and replace the 8T-5878 Bolts one at a time in an alternating sequence. Refer to Image1.1.1 for the sequence. Refer to Image1.1.2 for the required tooling. For the bolt removal a 3/4" impact with swivel and 36mm socket is required. 3. When replacing the bolts, apply a general-purpose adhesive/sealant for locking and sealing the screws and nuts in place (Loctite 242 or 243) to the bolts, before installing. Do NOT clean out the threads before installing. 4. Tighten each bolt to a specified torque of 900 +/- 100 N.m (665 +/- 75 lb ft). Refer to Image 1.1.3 for the required tooling. For installation, a 132-8112 Hydraulic Wrench, if available, or the updated serviceable 384-8910 Hydraulic Wrench. An equivalent hydraulic wrench with a 3/4" Sq Drive, with a torque range of 140 - 1400 ft/lbs and similar size and dimensions for access. |
