Usage:
The 6V9050 Cylinder Head Exhaust Stud Fixture Group, when bolted to the cylinder head, accurately locates the center of the broken stud. This allows the stud to be drilled out without damaging the threaded hole in the cylinder head.

Installation And Use Of 6V9050 Exhaust Stud Removal Group
1 If broken stud (1) is more than 3.2 mm (.125") above the gasket surface, grind the end of stud (1) flat so it is less than this dimension. Be careful not to grind the surface of the cylinder head.
2 Fasten 6V7847 Fixture (2) to the cylinder head using two 6V9045 Bushings (3) and two 0S1571 Bolts (4).
3 Put 6V9047 Bushing (5) in fixture (2). Use a 9.5 mm (.375") capacity drill and 6V9049 Drill (6) to drill through the broken stud.
NOTICE |
---|
Do not drill into the cylinder head. While drilling, periodically pull out the drill to remove chips and lubricate drill (6). |
4 Remove bushing (5) and chips from the hole. Put 6V9046 Bushing (7) in fixture (2). Use 12.7 mm (.50") capacity drill and 6V9048 Drill (8) to drill out the remainder of the broken stud.
NOTICE |
---|
Do not drill into the cylinder head. While drilling periodically pull out the drill to remove chip and lubricate drill (8). |
5 Remove the fixture from the cylinder head. Remove the tip of the stud from the cylinder head using 5P6732 Screw (9).
6 Use a 3/8-16 tap (10) to remove any remaining stud threads from the hole. Do not make threads past the depth of the original threads. Clean the threaded hole. Inspect the threads for damage. If damaged, helicoils may be installed in the heads of 1100, 3100 and 3200 Series engines; on 3300 and 3400 Series engines, the cylinder head should be replaced with a new or exchange cylinder head.
