Installation Of 2W1867 And 2W7702 Fan Drive Conversion Group{1350, 1359} Caterpillar

Installation Of 2W1867 And 2W7702 Fan Drive Conversion Group{1350, 1359}

Usage:

768C ( 2X),
769C ( 1X)

NOTE: Both conversion groups are the same, except for different crankshaft pulleys. If the engine is equipped with a rubber type damper, order a 2W1867 Fan Drive Conversion Group and if equipped with a viscous type damper, order a 2W7702 Fan Drive Conversion Group.

Fan Drive Field Conversion Groups that are belt driven can be installed as a replacement for the existing gear driven fan on the trucks given above.

Necessary Parts Removal

(1) Drain the radiator and remove tubes (1) and (2). Remove fan guard (3) and fan assembly (4).

(2) Remove oil supply line (5) and install a 5M6214 Plug in place of fitting (6). Drain the oil, remove oil return line (7) and install a 3J5389 Plug in bushing (8) on the oil pan. Remove fan drive assembly (9) and the adapter fastened with bolts to the end of the camshaft.

(3) Install an 8N3126 Adapter with a 5F149 Seal into the front of the timing gear housing with an 8N3524 Strap, bolts and washers.

NOTE: If the truck is equipped with a viscous type damper (10), remove the belts, four bolts (11) and install 8N3429 Pulley (12) with four 9M7269 Bolts (13). If the truck is equipped with a rubber type damper (14), remove the belts and the existing pulley and install 6N5300 Pulley (15) with four S1566 Bolts (16) as shown. Again, install the alternator belt and air conditioner compressor belt, if so equipped.

Modification Of Fan Guard

(1) Make template (1) at the dimension shown above.

(2) Put the guard in a flat position as shown and install a bolt at each location (A). Make cross marks (2) and (3) on the template as shown. Put the template in position on the guard so marks (2) are in alignment with guard ribs (4) and mark (3) with center lines (5) of the guard as shown. Make marks around the template on the guard. Remove brackets (6); these are needed again.

(3) Cut the guard as shown. With the same diameter and material wire, make nineteen wires (7) as shown. Weld each wire (7) to the guard from the bottom side as shown. Trim (cut) each wire to 57 (2.25") in length.

(4) Make wires (8) and install them on wires (7) on the guard as shown. Again, weld brackets (6) on the guard at approximate locations shown.

Assembly Of Fan Drive And Belt Tightner Group

(1) Install 8H9789 Bearing (1) in 2P1757 Hub (2) and 5S2106 Seal Assembly (3) with the lip of the seal toward the outside. Put lubricant on the seal, the same lubricant being sealed. Install 5S9062 Spacer (4) on shaft (5) of bracket (6). Put 4N8596 Pulley (7) over shaft (5) and install hub (2). Install 8N5305 Spacer (8) and fill the area around spacer (8) with grease. Install 3L1425 Bearing (9) and 9F4446 Seal (10). Install 7N2900 Washer (11) with two 7F938 Bolts (12). Install 8N3305 Adapter (13) on 4N8596 Pulley (7) with six T573 Bolts (14) and six 1D4717 Nuts (15). Install 8L6557 Connector at location (A) on bracket (6).

(2) Install 8N3328 Arm Assembly (16) on bracket (6) with 2M2742 Plate (17), L1351 Bolt and 5M2894 Washer. Install 3B8385 Fitting (18). Install 8B2327 Retainer (19) in pulley (20). Install 6B1124 Bearing (21) and 5M9735 Seal (22), with the lip of the seal to the outside. Install the pulley on the arm assembly. Install 8N3300 Spacer (23) and 6B1124 Bearing (24) with S509 Bolt (25) and 2S6160 Washer. Install 2S6151 Gasket (26) and 2S6150 Cover (27) with four S1618 Bolts (28) as shown. Install 2S6689 Retainer (29) with 2M849 Washer and 1D4719 Nut (30). Tighten nut (30) to a torque of 45 ± 7 N·m (30 ± 5 lb.ft.). Install 7N5959 Spring (31) with S175 Pins (32) and 3B4617 Cotter Pins.

(3) Put 6N449 Spider Assembly (33) in position inside the radiator guard as shown. Install fan drive assembly (34) with two S1587 Bolts (35), two 1B2886 Bolts (36) and four 5P8245 Washers.

(4) Install 8L6557 Connector (37) and 3B8485 Fitting (38) in 6N4111 Bracket (39). Install bracket (39) with a S1588 Bolt and 5M2894 Washer. Connect 2W109 Tube Assembly (40) to connector (37). Install tube assembly (40) as shown with 7D1728 Clip (41), S1588 Bolt and 5M2894 Washer and connect tube assembly (40) to connector (42) [installed earlier] on the fan drive assembly.

(5) Install Vee belts (43). Install 6N449 Spider Assembly (33) on fan drive assembly (34) with six S1587 Bolts and six 2M849 Washers. Install fan guard (44). With 3 × 25 (.12" × 1.0") material make and install brace (45) as shown.

(6) Connect tubes (1) and (2) to the radiator with new 4N1418 Gaskets and fill the radiator with coolant.
