Installation Of Crankshaft Seals And Wear Sleeves{1160, 1161}

Usage:

All Following Engines That Use A Silicon Crankshaft Seal (Seal Does Not Have Hydrodynamic Grooves) 1100, 3100, 3200 Series Engines 3300 Series Engines 3400 Series Engines 5.4"
(137) Bore 6 Cylinder Engines 5.4"

In those applications where a wear sleeve is used with the crankshaft seal, both the seal and the wear sleeve are installed at the same time. Always install a new wear sleeve when a new crankshaft seal is installed. For crankshaft seal and wear sleeve installation for D334, D336, D342, 1674 and 1676 Engines, make reference to Form SMHS6959.

B Rear Seal and Wear Sleeve - 1100, 3100 and 3204 Series Engines

1 Fasten 5P290 Locator (3) to the rear of the crankshaft with 1P5515 Bolts (8).

2 Put clean engine oil on the seal lip of seal (10) and on the outside of wear sleeve (11). Put seal (10) on wear sleeve (11) as shown. Use 8M8060 Quick Cure Primer to clean the outside diameter (A) of the crankshaft and the inside diameter (B) of the wear sleeve (11). Put 9S3265 Retaining Compound on the outside diameter (A) of the crankshaft flange and on the inside diameter (B) of wear sleeve (11).

NOTE: For those 3204 Engines that use a 7W3202 Seal Group, (double lip seal) do not lubricate the seal lip. The seal lip is already lubricated and does not need further lubrication. DO NOT SEPARATE THE SEAL FROM THE WEAR SLEEVE.

3 Put wear sleeve (11) with seal (10) on locator (2). Put 5P7293 Installer (1) (use 8T3098 Installer to install a double lip 7W3202 Seal) on locator (3), then install 9S8858 Nut (9). Put lubricant on face (C) of the washer on nut (9). Tighten nut (9) until installer (1) comes in contact with locator (3).

C Front Seal - 1100, 3100 and 3204 Engines

1 Put clean engine oil on the seal lip of the front seal and put the seal on the short end of 9S6030 Installer (4). The seal lip must be toward the inside of the engine.

2 Put installer (4) with the seal on the front of the crankshaft. Install the bolt and washer, that are used to fasten the crankshaft pulley to the crankshaft, in the end of the crankshaft. Tighten the bolt to push the seal into position.

NOTE: NOTE: Use the 9S6012 Spacer with the 9S6030 Installer (4) to put the seal in position for a new wear surface.

D Front Seal - 3208 Engine

1 Put clean engine oil on the seal lip of the front seal and put the seal on the short end of 5P4194 Installer (5). The seal lip must be toward the inside of the engine.

2 Put installer (5) with the seal on the front of the crankshaft. Install the bolt and washer, that are used to fasten the crankshaft pulley to the crankshaft, in the end of the crankshaft. Tighten the bolt to push the seal into position.

NOTE: Use the 5P4230 Spacer with the 5P4194 Installer (5) to put the seal in position for a new wear surface.
