Special Instruction REHS0034, "Repairing Nonmetallic Fenders and Hoods," is now available. The publication outlines the basic procedures to repair damage to fenders and hoods made from a thermoset plastic called polydicyclopentadiene (PDCPD).
PDCPD features high impact resistance and durability with lower maintenance costs. If a repair is needed, the repaired PDCPD surface can achieve its original strength. The procedures to repair the PDCPD fenders and hoods can also be applied to other types of plastic fenders and hoods.
Caterpillar recommends replacing any hood that becomes permanently deformed by heat.
Some of the parts, which can be repaired using these procedures, include 9R-9864 Fenders, 9R-9865 Fenders, 100-7052 Fenders, 100-7053 Fenders, and 113-1643 and 113-1644 Hoods used on Backhoe Loaders.
REHS0034 can be obtained through normal literature ordering channels.
