The cab door locks, side door locks, and hood locks should be lubricated if it becomes difficult to insert or turn the key in the lock. The proper lubricant for the locks is a dry film lubricant. A graphite lubricant or an oil based lubricant tends to retain dust and dirt, and should not be used on locks.
The part numbers for the recommended dry film lubricant are provided in Chart 1.
To lubricate a lock, spray the internal components of the lock through the key slot. If a shutter is provided which closes the key slot opening, it will be necessary to push aside the shutter in order to get the lubricant inside the lock. A key, a small screwdriver, or the plastic tube supplied with the aerosol can can be used to hold the key slot shutter open while the lubricant is being applied.
