Description of Change: Duo-cone seal assemblies provide increased earlier hour reliability. Assemblies have a new toric that can be serviced separately.

The new duo-cone seal rings (metal) have one 6 mm (.24 in) face band ring (3) (wide) and one face band ring 3 mm (.12 in) (2) (narrow). This allows the narrow band to slide up and down on the wide band seal and maintain a good sealing surface if the seal becomes disturbed.

The new toric ring (1) (rose colored) is of a silicon composition as was the former toric ring (yellow colored), but it has a different "filler" material. This new filler material will allow a 30% improvement in resistance from "taking a set". Once a toric takes a set, oil transfer can occur at much lower operating brake cooling oil pressures. The type of oil (EP type) and high brake cooling oil temperatures (from improper operating techniques) among other factors are influences which will cause the toric to take a set.

Adaptable To: Duo-cone seal assemblies in charts are adaptable to all earlier Quarry Trucks and Off-Highway Tractors and Trucks and require both rings be replaced. The wide band or narrow band seal ring can be installed in either the wheel or brake outer retainer.

NOTICE

The 149-0663 Back-Up Plate must be installed along with 145-6033 Duo-Cone Seal in all 769 Off-Highway Trucks. Without this back-up plate the duo-cone seal cannot be fitted properly.

NOTE: Caterpillar does not recommend the use of any EP type oils for any Off-Highway Tractors and Trucks in the power train (differential and final drives) compartment.
