Description of Change: New bolts, washers and retaining washer are used in the fan drive groups on the 3500 Machine Engines in these machines. A new shaft is also used in a bracket assembly used in these fan drive groups. The new shaft and retaining washer allow the use of 1/2inch bolts instead of the former 3/8inch bolts. This change will provide improved fan drive bearing retention. This will result in increased fan drive bearing life.
Adaptable To: The new components when used together are direct replacements for the former components. The new components of the fan drive groups are identified in the chart and Illustration 1.

The former 9Y-9389 Shaft and 7E-2455 Retaining Washer can be modified to work with the new 1/2inch bolts as follows:

1. See Illustration 2. Drill out the two holes marked (A) to a 11.00 mm (.433 in) diameter, 32.0 mm (1.26 in) deep. Then tap the two holes with 1/2- 13 thread, 22.0 mm (.87 in) deep.
