Improved 1R-0712 Fuel Filter Provides Improved Sealing{1261}

Usage:

Caterpillar Machines Powered By 3406, 3408, 3412, And 3176 Machine Engines

Description of Change: An improved fuel filter has a new wider gasket seal designed to provide improved sealing.

Adaptable To: The part number of the improved 1R-0712 Fuel Filter has not changed. The improved filter can be identified by date code that is "inked" on to the outer shell of the filter. All 1R-0712 Fuel Filters with a date code of UMUUDE (12/11/93, 12NOV93) or later have the new wider gasket seal. The date code can be deciphered by comparing to the following:

Prior to installation, it is important to visually inspect the gasket seal to ensure it is clean and properly seated. If the seal does not appear to be properly seated, use hand pressure to make sure the seal is properly seated into the groove on the top of the filter before the filter is installed. Lubricate the seal with the fluid being filtered and install the filter on the filter base. Tighten the filter until the seal makes contact with the filter base. Then, tighten the filter an additional 1 turn.
