Step b in the procedure is incomplete. Step b should read:
b. Put the brake piston on top of the discs. Use a press to compress the brake discs to a force of 4000 kg (8800 lb).
Step d in the procedure should be changed to the following:
d. To determine the correct shim thickness, subtract dimension (X) from dimension (Y), then subtract an additional 1.4 mm (.06 in). The resulting value is the correct shim thickness.
--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------
Description of Change: The brake assembly in the drum drive motor has an increased number of discs and plates to provide improved torque. There are 21 new friction discs and 22 new plates. The brake assembly previously used 16 each of the former discs and plates.
In addition to the increased number of plates and discs, the thickness of the friction disc changed. The former disc was 3.2 mm (.13 in) thick. The new friction disc is 2.5 mm (.10 in) thick. The minimum stack height of all discs is 67.0 mm (2.64 in).
Adaptable To: The new 112-2380 Brake Disc Kit includes 22 plates, 21 friction discs, and a shim pack. The brake disc kit is adaptable to CS-583 (8YJ1-Up, 1EL1-Up), CS-573 (8PK1-Up), CS-563 (8XF1-Up, 7GG1-Up), CP-563 (1YJ1-Up, 5AJ1-Up), CS-533 (3BL1-Up, 4HL1-Up), CP-533 (3ZL1-Up, 5AL1-Up) Vibratory Compactors. The new brake disc kit is used to service both the current and former discs and plates in the listed machines. The procedure to determine brake shim thickness has not changed. The installation order for the discs and plates has changed. The following procedure should be used.
Procedure To Determine Brake Shim Thickness
a. Install discs and plates alternately in brake housing, starting with an internal-toothed friction disc. Using this sequence, two external-toothed smooth plates will be assembled on top of the stack.
b. Put the brake piston on top of the discs. Use a press to compress the brake discs.
c. Measure the distance between the top of the piston and the top of the brake housing. This is dimension (X).
NOTE: When measuring the dimension (X), lay a straight edge across from (A) to (B) and measure down to the piston.
d. The shim thickness is (X) minus (Y) ... 1.40 mm (.055 in).
e. Place the shims on the last disc with the thickest shim next to the piston.
