8T-8697 Electronic Control Analyzer Programmer (ECAP) Improved{1900}

Usage:

Caterpillar Electronically Controlled Engines

In response to requests from the field, the ECAP has been modified to provide increased usability and reliability.

To make the ECAP easier to use, a POWER ON/OFF switch has been added near the Port One connector. By using this new switch, the operator will no longer have to disconnect and reconnect the power cable to recycle the ECAP.

The former plastic Port One connector has been replaced with a new metal connector. The new connector is less likely to break. Because of the new metal connector, a new "T-Harness" is required to connect the ECAP to the control and a new short cable is required to connect the ECAP to the 7X-1700 Communications Adapter (see the chart).

Additional cables have been released to allow the ECAP to retain power during engine cranking. Using these cables, the ECAP can be hooked up to an external power source as well as to the electronic control. To accomplish this, a short adapter cable "T-Harness" is inserted between the ECAP (4) and the T-Harness (3) that goes to the control. This is the 7X-1854 Adapter Cable (1) for an ECAP with the new metal Port One connector or the 7X-1855 Adapter Cable (2) for an ECAP with the former plastic Port One connector. The base of the 7X-1854 and 7X-1855 Adapter Cables has a two pin MS connector (A) that can connect through other cables to external power sources. See Illustration 1.

The 5P-7366 Power Cable Assembly (5) connects between the two pin MS connector (A) and an external battery on the service truck or another piece of equipment. The 8T-9276 (6) and 8C-9705 (7) 12 Volt Converters can be used to provide power from an AC outlet. If the 8C-9705 (7) 12 Volt Converter is used, a 7X-1856 Adapter Cable (8) must also be used. See Illustration 2.
