Tools Available For Out-Of-Chassis Dynamometer Testing Of Electronic Engines{0781,1901,1913}

Usage:

3176 And 3406B (PEEC) Truck Engines

Reference: Tool Announcement, NEHG3607, "Out-Of-Chassis Testing Of Electronic Engines, 3176 and 3406B PEEC Truck Engines".

The 7T5596 Throttle Position Sensor, FT2360 and FT2361 Cables are used to test the 3176 and 3406B (PEEC) Truck Engines out-of-chassis. These tools provide a throttle position signal and power to the Electronic Control Module (ECM), and allow the engine to be tested on an engine dynamometer.

The 7T5596 and a 12 volt DC power source are connected to the engine's Electronic Control Module (ECM) with the FT2360 and FT2361 Cables. The 12 VDC can be supplied by a 12 volt truck battery, or by a power supply rated 10 amps or more. See Illustration 1.

Illustration 1. Connections required to test the 3406B (PEEC) Engine.

The FT2361 Cable is 3.0 m (9.8 ft) long and will easily connect the 3406B (PEEC) ECM, the Throttle Position Sensor, and the power source. Both cables are required to test 3176 Engines. With the 3176 Engine adapter, the FT2360 Cable is just long enough to connect the FT2361 Cable to the 3176 Engine ECM. See Illustration 2.

NOTE: Knowledge of the customer's password(s) is required. To test an engine with this method, the ECM must NOT be programmed. If it is programmed, the customer-specified parameters MUST be removed before testing. Follow the procedure below to delete a programmed ECM.

Procedure To Delete A Programmed Electronic Control Module (ECM) Prior To Dynamometer Engine Testing

1. Connect an 8T8697 Control Group [Electronic Control Analyzer Programmer (ECAP)] equipped with an NEXG4512 Configuration Aid.

2. Access the ECM with the ECAP and, with the help of the Configuration Aid, store the customer-specified parameters in the ECAP.

3. Remove the customer-specified parameters from the ECM so the ECM is no longer programmed.

4. Test the engine on the dynamometer.

5. After testing, the ECM can be reprogrammed to its original configuration from the data stored in the ECAP by the Configuration Aid.
