Start By:
a. purge the system*
*See Testing And Adjusting for this procedure.
Regulations prohibit the venting of any refrigerant into the atmosphere. Refer to Caterpillar publications SENR3334-01 and NEDG5065-01 for the proper, equipment and tools to reclaim refrigerant from any Caterpillar machine. Always wear goggles when working on air conditioning systems. The system is under pressure at all times, engine running or not. Escaping Refrigerant-134A (Dichlorodifluoromethane ) can cause freezing of human flesh. Do not smoke while working on air conditioning systems. INHALING REFRIGERANT-134A THROUGH ANY SMOKING MATERIAL, ALTHOUGH NOT TOXIC OR FLAMMABLE CAN GENERATE LETHAL PHOSGENE GAS AND CAUSE VIOLENT ILLNESS OR DEATH. ALSO, HEAT MUST NEVER BE APPLIED TO A CHARGED SYSTEM. See Air Conditioning And Heating Service Manual, Form No. SENR3334-01, for more information on removal and installation of lines and refrigerant from the system. |
1. Remove the bolt at adjuster bar (1). Loosen bolt (5) at the compressor mount. Move the compressor so the drive belt can be removed. Remove the drive belt.
2. Disconnect the wires at connector (2) and (4), remove wire clip (3) from the compressor.
NOTE: Put identification on refrigerant lines (6) as to their location on the compressor.
3. Disconnect two refrigerant lines (6). Install plugs in the openings in the compressor and refrigerant lines (6).
4. Remove bolt (5) and the compressor mount bolt. Remove the compressor.
NOTE: Install Air Conditioning Compressor in the reverse order. Install the drive belt on the compressor pulley. Use tool (A) to measure the belt tension. Adjust the belt tension until the gauge reading for a new belt is 534 ± 22 N (120 ± 5 lb). Adjust the belt tension until the gauge reading for a used belt is 400 ± 44 N (90 ± 10 lb).A "used" belt is one which has more than 30 minutes of operation at rated engine speed.
End By:
a. complete check of compressor oil*
b. evacuate the system*
c. complete charge of system*
d. performance check*
