SRCR GENERATOR Caterpillar

Generator Rewind Data

Usage:

If there is a failure of the generator windings the generator can be rewound. A correct rewind job will return stator and rotor to like new condition. Four items are very important when rewinding any Caterpillar Generator.

Wire

The correct AWG size and number wire must be used. This can be found in the rewind data. The type of wire must be that called for by NEMA standard MW1000 section MW24C. Use of wire other than that called for by this NEMA standard may cause a failure of the generator.

Varnish

The varnish must have a class F rating. A high strengh 100 percent fill epoxy varnish is recommended. This is the best type material to use.

Balance

Rotors that have been rewound and varnished must be dynamically balanced. Balance the rotor to a displacement of no more than 1/2 mil peak to peak. Vibration caused by a rotor that is not correctly balanced can damage the generator.

Resistance

Resistance measurements will be accurate only if made with instruments able to measure very low resistance. A Wheatstone or Kelvin bridge is recommended. Do not use an ohmmeter.

Resistance values are correct only at the given temperature. If the temperature of the windings is different than that given, use the formula that follows to find the actual resistance.
