Usage:
start by:
a) remove air cleaner
b) remove exhaust manifold
c) remove fan drive
d) remove water temperature regulator
e) remove fuel lines
f) remove rocker shaft and push rods
1. Remove air cleaner breather tube (1) from the cylinder head.
2. Disconnect the wires from the glow plugs and remove glow plug wire lead assembly (2).
3. Disconnect line (4) from the fuel ratio control.
4. Remove two bolts (5) that hold water pump elbow (3) to the cylinder head.
5. Remove the water temperature gauge sensing unit from the cylinder head.
6. Remove bolts (7) and washers that hold the cylinder head. Remove cylinder head (8). Weight of the cylinder head is 135 lb. (59 kg).
7. Remove the old head gasket.
Install Cylinder Head
1. Clean the surfaces of the cylinder head and the cylinder block that make contact with each other. Make sure the surfaces are clean and dry. Install a new, dry gasket on the cylinder block.
2. Fasten a hoist to cylinder head (1). Put the head in position.
3. Install push rods (3). Put rocker shaft (2) in position on the cylinder head.
4. Put 9M3710 Anti-Seize Compound on the threads of the bolts that hold the cylinder head and rocker shaft in place. Install the bolts and washers.
5. Tighten the bolts as follows:
a) Tighten bolts 1 through 18 in number sequence to a torque of 115 lb.ft. (155 N·m).
b) Tighten bolts 1 through 18 again in number sequence to a torque of 185 ± 12 lb.ft. (254 ± 17 N·m).
c) Tighten bolts 1 through 18 again in number sequence (hand tighten only) to a torque of 185 ± 12 lb.ft. (254 ± 17 N·m).
d) Tighten bolts A through E in letter sequence to a torque of 22 lb.ft. (28 N·m).
e) Tighten bolts A through E again in letter sequence to a torque of 32 ± 5 lb.ft. (43 ± 7 N·m).
f) Tighten bolts A through E again in letter sequence (hand tighten only) to a torque of 32 ± 5 lb.ft. (43 ± 7 N·m).
6. Make adjustments until the intake valve clearance is .015 in. (0.38 mm) and the exhaust valve clearance is .025 in. (0.64 mm). See ENGINE VALVE LASH as shown in OPERATION, LUBRICATION AND MAINTENANCE GUIDE. Tighten the locknuts for the adjustment screws to a torque of 21 ± 5 lb.ft. (26 ± 7 N·m).
7. Put the valve cover in position and install the bolts. See INSTALL VALVE COVER for correct torque and tightening sequence.
8. Install the water temperature gauge sensing unit on the cylinder head.
9. Install the two bolts to hold the water pump elbow.
10. Connect the line to the fuel ratio control.
11. Install the glow plug wire lead assembly.
12. Install the air breather tube to the cylinder head.
