D4E TRACTOR POWER TRAIN Caterpillar

Final Drive

Usage:

(1) Torque for nut ... 300 ± 40 lb. ft.(410 ± 55 N·m)

Torque for bolts that hold the nut lock in place ... 180 ± 20 lb. ft.(247 ± 25 N·m)

(2) Torque for bolts ... 42 ± 5 lb. ft.(58 ± 7 N·m)

(3) Distance between face of flange and shoulder of pinion ... .12 ± .03 in.(3.0 ± .8 mm)

This distance to be measured after flange is pushed on to pinion with force of ... 15 to 20 ton(135 to 180 kN)

(4) Torque for bolts ... 85 ± 10 lb. ft.(115 ± 14 N·m)

(5) Distance between face of sprocket to shoulder of splines ... .12 ± .06 in.(3.0 ± 1.5 mm)

This distance to be measured after sprocket is pushed on to hub with a force of ... 20 to 25 ton(180 to 225 kN)

(6) Torque for nut ... 350 ± 50 lb. ft.(470 ± 70 N·m)

(7) Tighten nuts to ... 60 ± 5 lb. ft.(80 ± 7 N·m)

Then tighten nut an added ... 120°

After nuts have been turned an added 120°, torque for nuts must be ... 225 lb. ft.(300 N·m) minimum

(8) Torque for nut [after shaft has been installed to distance shown in (10)] ... 550 ± 50 lb. ft.(750 ± 70 N·m)

(9) Torque for bolts ... 100 ± 10 lb. ft.(135 ± 14 N·m)

Make certain that the face at the front and the rear ends of this plate is not more than .004 in. (0.10 mm) from the face of the steering clutch case.

(10) Distance for installation of shaft (from face of holder to line of separation of steering clutch case and final drive cover ... 9.500 ± .062 in.(241.30 ± 1.57 mm)

This distance to be measured after shaft is pushed into steering clutch case (with keyway on top) with a force of 10 to 20 ton (90 to 180 kN).

Tighten nut (8) to correct torque after shaft is installed.

(11) See ADJUSTMENT OF FINAL DRIVE SPROCKET BEARINGS.

(12) Torque for nut ... 350 ± 50 lb. ft.(470 ± 70 N·m)

(13) Maximum permissible amount the shaft can be bent ... .125 in.(3.2 mm)

Measure at four places (every 90°) with shaft installed in machine.
