Adjustment Procedures For The Brakes

Usage:

Adjustment Of The Brakes

1. Install steering clutch and bevel case cover.

2. Turn nut (5) clockwise to a torque of 45 ± 10 lb. ft. (60 ± 14 N·m) until the brake band fits firmly against the drum.

3. Make an adjustment to the length of the rod (3) so the distance between the centerlines of the rod ends is ... 21.65 in.(549.9 mm)

4. Tighten the nuts on rod (3) to a torque of ... 100 ± 10 lb. ft.(135 ± 14 N·m)

5. Loosen the nuts on rod (7).

6. Remove the cotter pin and pin that connect end of rod (7) to lever (6). Make an adjustment to the length of rod (7) so distance (B) between serrated pedal face to dash is ... 11.50 ± .12 in.(292.1 ± 3.0 mm)

7. Put end of rod (7) in position on lever (6) and install the pin and cotter pin.

8. Tighten the nuts on rod (7) to a torque of ... 100 ± 10 lb. ft.(135 ± 14 N·m)

9. Turn nut (5) counterclockwise 21/2 turns or until pedal (2) will move freely 3.0 ± .12 in. (76.2 mm) free movement when 15 lb. (67 N) force is put on pedal.

10. Steps 2 through 9 for the control rods for the left brake. Make sure the left brake pedal is in alignment with the right brake pedal.

Adjustment Of The Parking Brake Lever

1. Put lever (1) in the NOT ENGAGED position.

2. Loosen nut on rod (4).

3. Remove cotter pin and pin that connect end of rod (4) to lever (1). Make an adjustment to the length of rod (4) so that distance (A) is ... 4.50 ± .12 in.(114.0 ± 3.0 mm)

4. Put rod end in position on lever (1) and install pin and the cotter pin. Tighten nut on rod (4) to a torque of ... 18 ± 5 lb. ft.(25 ± 7 N·m)
