Diverter Valve (Torque Converter And Brake Cooling)

Usage:

Remove & Install Diverter Valve (Torque Converter And Brake Cooling)

1. Raise the truck body, and install the body retaining cable.

NOTE: The procedure to remove diverter valve (7) and diverter valve (8) is basically the same. Only the removal of diverter valve (7) is shown.

------ WARNING! ------

To prevent possible personal injury, make sure the pressure in the air system is zero before any air lines are disconnected.

2. Disconnect hose assemblies (1) and (2) from upper diverter valve (7).

3. Disconnect hose assemblies (4) and (6).

4. Disconnect air lines (5).

5. Remove bolts (3) that hold diverter valve (7) to the manifold. Remove diverter valve (7).

NOTE: The following steps are for installation of the diverter valve.

6. Make sure the O-ring seal and screen are in position in the manifold. Put the diverter valve in position on the manifold and install bolts (3).

7. Connect hose assemblies (4) and (6).

8. Connect air lines (5).

9. Connect hose assemblies (1) and (2) to the diverter valve.

10. Remove the body retaining cable and lower the truck body.

Disassemble & Assemble Diverter Valve (Torque Converter & Brake Cooling)

Start By:

a. remover diverter valve (torque converter and brake cooling)

1. Remove plug (3), spring (4) and stem (5) from valve body (2). Check the condition of the O-ring seal on plug (3) and replace if needed.

2. Remove two bolts (6) and cylinder (1) from valve (2).

3. Remove O-ring seal (8) and retaining ring (7) from cylinder (1).

4. Remove head seal assembly (9) and piston (11).

5. Remove seal (10) from the bore of head seal assembly (9).

6. Check the condition of all seals, O-ring seals and lip type seals in cylinder assembly (1) and replace with new ones if needed.


NOTICE

Be sure all parts are thoroughly clean and free of dirt and debris. Remove any scratches or burrs from components with polishing paper or an oil stone. If any component parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement. Put clean oil hydraulic oil on the components as they are being installed. Be sure to install all parts in the correct position in their original locations.


7. Assemble the diverter valve in the reverse order of disassembly.
