Governor and Decelerator Control Linkage Modification{1265}

Introduction

This special instruction provides the procedure for modification of the 3T1049 Governor and Decelerator Control Group. The modification simplifies the linkage between the governor and the operators platform.

The improved linkage eliminates the needle bearings at the control rod connections. The needle bearings were susceptible to dirt contamination which caused the linkage to become difficult to operate. The improved linkage is not as susceptible to contamination and will provide better service.

Necessary Parts

Modification Procedure

1. Remove covers and plates as needed for access.

2. Remove rod assemblies (1), (2) and (3) including rod ends, bolts and nuts. These parts will not be reused.

NOTE: Do not remove lever (4) from the governor control.

3. Remove bellcrank (5), lever (6) and mounting brackets (7) from the engine cylinder head. These parts will not be reused.

4. Remove elbow (8) and oil drain tube (9). Oil drain tube (9) and the bolt used to fasten the tube to bracket assembly (10) will not be reused.

NOTE: The elbow, clips, nut and washer will be used in the installation.

5. Install 7C4171 Tube (11) with 8F4994 Seals. Install elbow (8) using a 2W0752 Gasket. Attach tube (11) to bracket assembly (10) with a 0S1571 Bolt, 9M4594 Spacer, washer, nut and clips.

NOTE: Lubricate the elbow bores lightly with engine oil before assembly.

NOTE: The curved clip should face away from the engine.

6. Remove bracket (12) from the fuel filter group. Install a 9W6825 Bracket using the same mounting hardware.

7. Remove lever (13). Turn the lever around 180° and reinstall it so that the lever arm (offset) is away from the machine.

8. Press a 3K6662 Bearing (14) into each end of 9W6824 Bellcrank (15). The bearing should be pressed into the bore 6 mm-7 mm (.236"-.276") past the edge of the bellcrank.

Install a 8T0741 Seal (16) into each end of bellcrank (15) and against bearing (14).

NOTE: Install seals (16) so that the sealing lip is facing out.

9. Install bellcrank (15) and two 1K0502 Washers (17) on 9W6818 Shaft Assembly (18) and secure with a 3B4618 Cotter Pin.

NOTE: The lever arm of bellcrank (15) should be installed closest to the cotter pin.

10. Install shaft assembly (18) to the back side of bracket (12) with a 9B7237 Bolt and 5P1075 Washer. The shaft assembly will point towards the engine when installed.

11. Assemble a 6V8183 Nut and 1A9252 Rod End (19) to each end of 9W6459 Rod (20). Preset the rod assembly length to 780 ± 2 mm (30.7 ± .08").

NOTE: The rod assembly length is measured in a straight line between the centerlines of the rod end mounting holes.

12. Install rod assembly (20) to lever (13) and the short leg of bellcrank (15). Fasten with 1B0676 Pins and 3B4618 Cotters.

Tighten the nuts against the rod ends to 12 N·m (9 lb ft).

13. Assemble two 6V8183 Nuts, 1A9252 Rod End (19) and 2K0400 Yoke Rod End (21) to 9W6458 Rod (22). Preset the rod assembly length to 1220 ± 2 mm (48.031 ± .08").

NOTE: The rod assembly length is measured in a straight line between the centerlines of the rod end mounting holes.

14. Attach yoke rod end (21) to the long leg of bellcrank (15) and rod end (19) to lever (4) on the engine governor. Fasten with 1B0676 Pins and 3B4618 Cotters.

Tighten the nuts against the rod ends to 12 N·m (9 lb ft).

NOTE: Install yoke rod end (21) so that the rod is closest to the engine.

15. Minor adjustments to the rod assembly may be needed to set high idle or shut off positions (see the Service Manual).

16. Install any covers and plates which were removed for access.
