Introduction
The OR2547 Engine is a 310 hp, 3406 Truck Engine that can be installed as a replacement for the following original 3406 Truck Engine Arrangements.
IMPORTANT: This is an aftercooled engine. Before installing this engine in place of an original non-aftercooled engine, make sure there is enough clearance between the engine and cab to permit installation.

Exchange of Parts
The OR2547 Remanufactured Engine is built to new engine arrangement number 4W2297. No modification or parts exchange is necessary if the original engine arrangement was 4W2297. Some modification or parts exchange will be necessary when installing this remanufactured engine arrangement in place of any other engine arrangement shown above.
Use the reference literature indicated when necessary to exchange parts between the original and new engines. Although parts on the new engine may be different from those on the original engine, an exchange may not be necessary depending upon the specific application. In some cases, it may be more advantageous to make minor modifications to the truck rather than exchange components between the new and former engines.
Before installation of the engine in the truck, make sure the flywheel housing, flywheel, vibration damper, and crankshaft pulley on the new engine are compatible in this application.
The OR2547 Remanufactured Engine is rated at 310 Horsepower @ 1800 rpm. This engine will not necessarily have the same rating as the original engine. Make sure the drive line and cooling system of the truck are compatible with this rating. Always refer to the FUEL SETTING INFORMATION LIBRARY and/or the FUEL SETTING AND RELATED INFORMATION microfiche before making any changes to the fuel setting.
For maximum life of the Caterpillar Remanufactured Engine, be sure that the following components are checked during installation.
Air Compressor
As the air compressor uses engine oil, be sure it is clean inside. Foreign material from the former engine can decrease engine life.
Air Cleaner
Install new element in the air cleaner. Install hoses and clamps. Inspect all of the tubes for leaks.
Radiator
Make sure that the radiator is clean inside and outside. Install new hoses and clamps. Check for leaks.
Before Return Shipment of the Old Engine to the Factory:
Remove the drain plugs. Make sure all of the coolant is removed from the engine. Do not install the plugs back in the engine. Make a package for storage of the plugs. Use wire to fasten the package to the engine. All parts removed from the new engine must be installed on the original engine.
