Instructions For 3208 Engine Oil Filter Base Installation{1306}

Usage:

All Caterpillar 3208 Engines Except: Oil Cooler Group: 9N0729 ( 32Y81-03-UP, 90N39-45-UP, 79V57-45-UP ) 9N0521 ( 90N38-811-UP)

NOTE: This instruction should be included in the 3208 Engine Oil Filter Base Installation Kit. See the Engine Service Guide, Form No. SEBF2561.

1 Disconnect the batteries. Drain the coolant from the cooling system. Loosen clamps (1) and remove hoses (2) from the engine and oil cooler (4). Remove oil filters (5). Remove two bolts (3) and two bolts from behind the oil cooler. Remove the oil filter base and the engine oil cooler as a unit.

2 Remove the ten bolts that hold the cover to the base. Remove three nuts (7) and the cover and core assembly from base (6).

NOTE: The gasket must be installed with point (indexing point) in the up position toward the front of the engine.

3 Install the gasket between the cooling core and the cover assembly and the new base. Install nuts (7) and tighten to a torque of 21 ± 3 N·m (16 ± 2 lb.ft.). Install the bolts that hold the cover and the core assembly to the base.

4 Put new O-ring seals (8) in position. Put the oil filter base and the engine oil cooler in position on the engine. Install the four bolts that hold it in position.

5 Install new oil cooler hoses and oil filters. Install oil in the crankcase to the correct level. Install cooling system conditioner. Fill the cooling system to the correct level.

6 Connect the batteries. Start the engine and inspect for leaks. Stop the engine and allow the oil to drain. Check to make sure the oil and coolant are at their correct levels.
