Top Shaft

Usage:

Remove Top Shaft

start by:

a) remove oil manifold

1. Remove twenty-five bolts (1) that hold top cover (2).

2. Use 7/16"-14 NC forcing screws to make a separation of the top cover (2) from the housing.

3. Remove the top cover (2).

4. Inspect gasket (3) and make a replacement if it is broken or damaged.

5. Remove all tube assemblies (4) that are connected to the top shaft.

6. Install a 1/2"-13 NC forged eyebolt and fasten a hoist to the top shaft.

7. Fasten one end of a nylon sling to a hoist and fasten the other end over the end of the small shaft. Adjust the sling so a minimum of weight is on the small shaft.

8. Remove bolts (5) and loosen front retainers (7) and rear retainers (8).

9. Remove bearing caps (6). The bearing caps (6) are connected to dowels.

10. Lift the top shaft from the housing with a 1/2" - 13 NC forged eyebolt, a nylon sling and a hoist. The weight of the top shaft is approximately 740 lb. (338 kg).

Install Top Shaft

NOTE: Before the top shaft is installed in the housing be sure the front retainers are tight and the rear retainers are loose. This will permit the top shaft to be lowered in position correctly.

1. Use a hoist and sling as a support and put the top shaft in the housing.

2. With the hoist and sling connected, install the bearing caps (2) with bolts (3). This will make sure that all of the top shaft bearings (1) are installed correctly.

3. Tighten the rear retainers (4).

4. Connect all tube assemblies (5) to the top shaft.

5. Lower the top cover (6) on the housing. Make an alignment of the holes in the cover with the holes in the housing.

6. Install the gasket and the top cover (6) with bolts (7).
