Fuel Transfer Pump

Usage:

Remove Fuel Transfer Pump

start by:

a) remove fuel priming pump

1. Remove line (1) for fuel priming pump.

2. Remove line (5) from transfer pump.

3. Remove fuel supply line (4) and return line (3).

4. Remove fuel transfer pump (2).

Install Fuel Transfer Pump

1. Put the pump (1) in place on the injection pump housing and install the bolts. Be sure drive shaft (2) engages with injection pump camshaft.

2. Install fuel supply line and return line.

3. Install fuel line for fuel priming pump.

4. Install fuel drain line.

Disassemble Fuel Transfer Pump

start by:

a) remove fuel transfer pump

1. Remove base (1) from pump housing.

2. Remove bolt (4), spring (3) and relief valve (2) from base (1).

3. Remove idler gear (5) from pump housing.

4. Remove retaining ring (6) from drive shaft.

5. Remove drive shaft with punch and hammer. When removing shaft, woodruff key will push bearing from pump housing. This will cause damage to bearing and it must be replaced.

6. Remove the gear (7) and shaft assembly (8) from pump housing.

7. Remove woodruff key from shaft.

8. Remove spring (13), retainers (10), seals (12) and gasket (9) from pump housing and seat assembly (11).

9. Remove the bearing from seat assembly (11).

Assemble Fuel Transfer Pump

1. Install the bearings in seat assembly and pump housing with tool (A). Install the bearings with chamfered end of bearing toward seals.

2. Install the gasket that goes in seal hole of pump housing.

3. Install seat assembly (1) on drive shaft (2). Install seal on shaft and put it into place with tool (B). Install seal in pump housing in a similar method.

4. Install retainers, springs, and the gasket that goes between seat and pump housing, over drive shaft.

5. Install shaft and seat assembly into pump housing. Hold seat assembly to pump housing with tool (C) and install woodruff key (3).

6. Install drive gear (5) and retaining ring (6). Remove tool (C) and install idler gear (4).

7. Install relief valve, spring and bolt in base (9). Tighten bolt to 40 ± 5 lb. ft. (55 ± 7 N·m) of torque.

8. Put a thin layer of 8S6747 Permatex Aviation type Form-A-Gasket on the sealing surface (8) of the pump housing. Do not let Permatex enter pump.

9. Install base (9) on pump housing (7).
