Actuator

Usage:

Disassemble Actuator

start by:

a) remove actuator and EGR valve

1. Make a separation between the actuator and EGR valve by removal of bolts (2) and the cotter pin and pin (1) that connects the actuator and EGR valve.

2. Remove solenoids (6) from actuator caps.

3. Remove bolt (4) from actuator cap and then remove cap (5). Remove yoke (3) from rod.

4. Remove and inspect O-ring seals (7) from cap (5). Make a replacement of the seals if necessary.

5. Remove rod and piston assembly (8) from cap. Remove ring from behind piston; then remove piston. Remove lip type seal from cap.

6. Remove spring (9) from actuator body (10).

7. Remove the bolts that hold cap (13) to actuator body. Remove and inspect O-ring seals (11). Make a replacement of the seals if necessary. Remove piston (12) from the actuator body.

Assemble Actuator

1. Put a small amount of clean SAE oil on piston (1). Install it in the actuator body.

2. Install new O-ring seals on cap (2). Install cap on actuator body with the bolts (3) that hold it.

3. Put clean SAE 10 oil on the lip type seal. Install the seal in cap (4), with a suitable driver, even with the face of the cap. Make sure the rubber lip of the seal is opposite the face of the cap. Install new O-ring seals (5) on the cap. Install piston (6) on rod and install ring behind piston. Install this assembly in cap (4).

NOTE: Be sure to install new ring behind piston.

4. Install cap (4) on the actuator body with bolt (8). Install yoke (7) on rod.

5. Install two solenoids (9) on actuator body caps. Install cotter pin (10) through pin in linkage. Install the bolts (11) that connect actuator and EGR valve.

NOTE: Be sure to adjust the linkage after installation on engine. See the subject, ADJUSTMENT OF LINKAGE FROM ACTUATOR TO EGR VALVE, in the Testing and Adjusting section.

end by:

a) install actuator and EGR valve

Disassemble And Assemble EGR Valve

start by:

a) disassemble actuator

1. Remove two bolts (2), then lock (4), and large plate (1) from outlet port. Remove small plate from the inlet port (3).

2. Remove shaft (5) from housing. Check shaft bushings in housing for damage. If necessary, remove bushings.

3. Install bushings in housing with tool group (A). Install shaft (5). Make sure that shaft moves freely in housing.

4. Install plates, locks and bolts in their respective positions.

end by:

a) assemble actuator
